The Zoo, Zoo, Zoo!

TGI...weekend, a long one at that!!! My little Kinder-Hoppers have decided that listening and following directions may not be as important as I do. Don't get me wrong, my class is wonderful, and I adore them, but they are needing reminders and reminders and loads of redirection. The "look" isn't working on most of them anymore. This weekend will give me time to put together a plan of action!

I am not sure if I mentioned this...but the referendum that we so desperately need in our school district passed. I work in an amazing place. 80% of the households do not have children in the district and yet it passed with 80%!!! I am extremely optimistic about my job next year, which means...I will never leave :-)

In previous years we had a field trip to the Brookfield Zoo; however, this year we had to cut field trips down to 3, so the zoo has fallen to the side. I debated for quite a bit to add new materials to what I already have but I am just not going to have time. I am adding Insects to May, so I am trying to stay focused on that. I did mention in a previous post that I would add some Zoo stuff. Here is what I have. There isn't much to it, but it was made with love :-).

As always, thank you for reading! I can't believe how close to 300 followers I am...it's amazing! I can't express how much I love to share with you and see all the wonderful things that everyone is sharing out there.

I hope you can find some things that you can use. Enjoy!!!

Splishin' and a-Splashin'

WoW, it has been a looooong week! I have been busy and exhausted with life in general, I apologize for not posting anything in a bit!

We will be doing our Ocean Unit towards the end of the year but I thought I could post what I have and maybe have another post with other things that I add later. I hope you find things you can use!

Enjoy!

The Ocean, Ocean, What do you See? book isn't too complicated to make...here's what I do...
I print the cover for each student on white card stock. All the other pages are copied on white paper. Students color and cut the pages that have dotted lines. Once they put the pages in order, I staple them to the lower half of the cover sheet. It's a unique way to do a book that the kids enjoy!

ABC Order Crabs

After students use the ABC order crabs, I have them complete the corresponding worksheet. They must write the letters in lowercase form and then color by code.

The Even or Odd Sort has pails that are marked even and odd and the end of the document. If you are all tired of the paper, you can always get small shells and write the numbers on them and buy plastic pails for students to sort them.

The Fish Bowl Math Game is a game that I use all year, just with different themes. The kids LOVE it!! You will need to make a dice for each group that plays.

This is the student Venn Diagram. I print the pages out on 11x17 paper. Students cut the actual diagram out (on the dotted line) and glue it to a piece of construction paper (12x18). Then color, cut, sort, and glue the animals in their appropriate places.

We enjoy the Shari Sloane song, Some Children Went to Sea, Sea, Sea. Check out her pdf that goes along with it! http://www.kidscount1234.com/somesea.pdf

The kids LOVE singing Jack Hartmann's Silly Pirate Song. I bought Pirate eye patches with gold hoop earrings at Walmart for $.25 each. They are easy to clean too!

Peep! Peep!

And, so the peeping begins! Today was a very "eggs-iting" day in Room 17! Our chicks began to hatch. Now as most of you know, chick hatching has not been something I have experienced much success with. I am fairly certain that the 4 chicks that hatched last year did not last very long once they were among bigger and stronger chicks. By the way...4 chicks was my 3 year total...how very sad!

This morning at 7:30AM we had one egg with a tiny hole and by 3PM, we had 4 chicks!!! My little Kinder-Hoppers wanted to stand at that incubator every second they could! Our first little Peep was sweetly named "Nugget," because that is what his babysitter calls him. Amazing how Chelsea Handler can suddenly appear in a Kindergarten Classroom. We have 4 chicks and 4 eggs with tiny holes in them. I can only hope that this fertility miracle is a sign for me :-)

I don't have any goodies for you today, just some pictures to share! As always, thank you for reading!!!

This is a picture of our Chick Development Calendar. They counted DAILY!

Here is our Chick Hatch Prediction Chart. As you can see, my hopes were not too high.

This is the giant chick I have next to our incubator once the chicks start to hatch. I bought him last year for 75% off at Pier 1.

We made these cute little chicks this afternoon. Even though students get all the same size pieces and directions, they all come out looking so different. I LOVE them! I got the idea off of a website last year but have no clue which site. If it's your idea, I will be more than happy to link it up.

Here they are! Not quite dry enough for the brooder yet!
